Authentic bronze Hasmonean coin from 135 to 37 B.C set in an ornate sterling silver frame pendant.
This coin minted by the Hasmonean rulers of Israel. 1 Maccabees 2:19-15 describes the decree of Antiochus VII, where the Hasmonean rulers were given permission to minty their own coins as a symbol of independence.
This coin is very unique because it has an inscription in paleo-Hebrew text, the same script used during the period of King David (10th century B.C)
This is the first Jewish coin to use whole sentences in this type of ancient Hebrew script, and its use suggests that the Hasmoneans are attemting to restore the Davidic Monarchy to Israel.
