What are the Biblical feasts?

Biblical Feasts were given to the Israelites as a series of reminders of their redemption from Egypt but also as a foreshadowing of the plan of redemption and Jesus’ significant role in our salvation. As outlined in Leviticus, these are the seven Biblical Feasts:

Passover- This feast was used to celebrate the final redemption of the Israelites from Egypt when the Angel of Death passed over those who applied the blood of the lamb to their doorposts.

Unleavened Bread- A 7-day feast that includes leaving the leavening from the bread, symbolizing the absence of sin, and the decay and corruption that sin causes.

Feast of the First Fruits- One of the three Jewish Harvest feasts held as a celebration of God’s provision and blessings.

Feast of Weeks or Pentecost- Another harvest feast, 7 weeks after the Feast of the First Fruits when persons were expected to bring gifts from their first fruits of grain.

Feast of Trumpets – A feast where all regular work ceased and people heeded God’s command to rest. On this day the shofar (ram horn) was blown as a part of the celebrations.

Day of Atonement (Judgement Day) – A very sobering day in the Israelite camp when persons were called to repent of their sins and to bring an animal sacrifice while the High Priest offered prayers on their behalf in the Holy of Holies.

Feast of Tabernacles or Booths – The feast that followed the Day of Atonement and celebrated God’s protection and provision for the Israelites during 40 years of wandering in the desert on their way to the Promised Land.
