Gold is important in the symbolism of the Bible. From the second chapter of Genesis through the end of the book of Revelation gold appears over and over again. The wise men brought a gift of gold to the King of the Jews in Bethlehem.

The Tabernacle in the wilderness, and later the Temple in Jerusalem were constructed using much gold. Notably, the Ark of the Covenant and the mercy seat were layered with gold. Soon, we who believe in Christ will walk on streets of gold in the New Jerusalem.
