Be ready to anoint - Holy Spirit healing is needed in this world!
In the book of Psalms, King David celebrated the fact that God would, in the future, anoint him with fresh oil. He says at in the opening lines of the Psalm that it is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD and to sing praises to His name.
Interestingly, the only other time that fresh oil is mentioned in the Old Testament is when the Bible describes the taste of the manna in the desert. In other words, God’s miraculous provision for His children tasted like fresh oil. It is a good thing to thank God for His care for us. It is a good thing to praise Him for the bread from Heaven.
In his epistle, the apostle James instructed sick people to call the elders of the church who would pray over them and anoint them with oil. The book of James says that God will hear the prayers of faith. He will hear from Heaven and provide healing, just as He provided the manna for His people in the desert. Just as the bread from Heaven was a miracle, so is God’s healing now.
Anointing oils are just as much an indispensable part of James’ instructions as believing prayer is. According to Scripture, church elders should be prepared to anoint those who ask, in addition to praying over them.
Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord;
( James 5:14)
As believers, we should be ready and expecting that ill people will call on us to anoint them and pray with them. A good way for Christians to be prepared is to carry roll-on oil with you. Zak’s Jerusalem Gifts offers a wide range of roll-on anointing oils.
These biblical oils will allow you to be prepared whenever someone asks for your prayers. These portable oils can easily be carried on pastoral visits the houses of the sick or to hospitals. The benefit of roll-on oils is their ease of application and clean-up. The variety of scents available at Zak’s allows church elders and members to link their prayers for healing with specific attributes of God and Bible promises.
It is indeed a good thing to sing praises to God, for His provision for His children and for His healing. Let us, like the Psalmist, be anointed with fresh oil.
