Kosher Ram’s horn, Yemenite and Gemsbock Shofar –

Shofars are ancient musical instruments typically made from the horns of kosher animals such as rams, sheep and kudu to be used as trumpets.  The Hebrews blew these instruments to ‘sound the alarm’ and to prepare for battle as well as in keeping God’s commandments to ‘Blast the shofar’ at Jewish New Year, Rosh Ha Shana (Feast of trumpets) Yom Kippur.

Horns represent salvation – The bridegroom would blow the shofar to announce his coming for his bride – in the same way at the sounding of the ‘last trumpet’, Jesus too shall return for His Bride.  Shofars are mentioned many times throughout scripture – and is much an instrument for the Body of Christ – HIS Church.  The instrument is used to announce the new moon at the Jubilee year and the Rosh Hashana (first day of Tishrei).

Praise Him with the sound of the shofar (Psalm 150:3)

The shofar is also blown on other High Holy Days – times that represent forgiveness of debts, freedom from slavery, and returning to one’s home.  Zechariah 9:14 states “Then the Lord will appear over them; his arrow will flash like lightning.  The Sovereign LORD will sound the trumpet…”  The shofar is a symbol of God’s own voice, may we be found ready at the last trumpet heralding HIS return.
