Is olive wood mentioned in the Bible?

The olive tree and by extension, olive wood is frequently mentioned throughout the Bible. It can even be considered one of the most valuable trees to the Hebrews at the time.

The first reference to the olive tree is in Genesis 8, when the dove that Noah sent out returned to the ark with an olive branch. Following this several references have been made to the olive tree, its branches from which we get olive wood and its fruits throughout both the Old and New Testaments.

When Israel conquered Canaan, the olive tree was also a prominent feature among the trees. In Deuteronomy, God told the Israelites that after they have beaten the olive tree once to harvest the olives, they should not do it a second time, but they should leave the boughs for the aliens (strangers), widows and orphans.

This was one of God’s laws which demonstrated loving-kindness and compassion for those that were poor, disabled, widowed or simply a visitor from a foreign land.

In Psalm 52, David declared that he was like a green olive tree in the house of the Lord. The olive tree was considered one of the longest-living trees and one which symbolized prosperity and abundant blessings and this tree that David referenced would be doubly blessed based on where it was planted.
